Impact Microgrant Program

About the Program

The Impact FTL Microgrant program offers up to $10,000 in total funding to support local entrepreneurs, with individual grants ranging from $100 to $850. These flexible, no-strings-attached microgrants are designed to reduce financial barriers by offering immediate, flexible, no-strings-attached support – empowering business owners to become stable and/or grow based on their most urgent needs.

The application window has closed. Grants will be awarded by December 31, 2025, or until funds are exhausted, whichever comes first.

How is this Possible?

The National League of Cities Institute (NLC), with support from the Gates Foundation, launched the Advancing Economic Mobility Grant program to support cities in testing innovative strategies that increase economic mobility for residents with an Area Median Income (AMI) under 200%.

Through this initiative, participating municipalities receive grant funding and coaching to implement and evaluate community-driven ideas. The program encourages peer learning and collaboration with NLC staff over the course of the project. As part of this effort, the City of Fort Lauderdale has been awarded $20,000 to support activities such as planning, stakeholder engagement, and resident-centered initiatives that align with its goals to address local economic challenges and expand opportunities for upward mobility.

Half of the grant will support the launch of the Impact FTL Microgrant Program.  The remaining $10,000 will fund Startup FTL’s Ideation and Grow cohorts, where participants receive training and mentorship, culminating in a pitch competition. Five winners at the end of each six-week cohort will receive $1,000 to accelerate their business development.

Application Process

  • Online Application: Applicants will complete a detailed digital application form outlining their business, income eligibility, and detailing reimbursable expenses.

    • Valid business license or registration
