The City of Fort Lauderdale established the Public Art and Placemaking program in 2020, recognizing that a superior and diverse aesthetic character of a city's built environment is vital to health, safety, welfare, tourism, and quality of life. This program allocates 2% of the Community Investment Program budget to public art initiatives throughout the city. The Public Art and Placemaking Program contributes to the aesthetic enhancement of the city while creating an exciting cultural environment that reflects and enhances the city's vision, diversity, and character.

Calls to Artists

Central City Public Art Project – 13th Street Roundabout Sculpture

Deadline: July 27, 2025
Budget: $140,000 (all-inclusive)

Project Overview

The City of Fort Lauderdale invites professional artists to submit qualifications for a permanent, site-specific sculpture to be installed in the Central City district's roundabout at NE 13th Street and NE 7th Avenue. This project seeks to reflect the unique identity of the community while contributing to the City's vibrant public art collection.

This project seeks to reflect the unique identity of the Central City community and respond directly to themes raised by local residents through a public survey conducted in April 2025.

Survey respondents emphasized themes of community, diversity, local history, nature, and joy. They want the sculpture to stand out as a bold, imaginative focal point that reflects Fort Lauderdale’s culture, while evoking celebration, unity, and inspiration. Artists are strongly encouraged to review the themes and preferences below and incorporate them meaningfully into their concept proposals.
