• In response to House Bill 735, we are updating our permitting process. Effective September 1 2025, non-licensed contractors are now eligible to register and apply for permits for minor construction work through LauderBuild.  

• Per Florida Building Code section 105.18.1, a permit for the demolition of a building or structure for which an application is made voluntarily by the owner shall expire sixty (60) days from the date of issuance and shall specifically require the completion of the work for which the permit is issued on or before the expiration date.

• LauderBuild has a new look! The Development Services Department launched a fresh new update to our citizen's access portal - LauderBuild! This update is designed to enhance your user experience and provide you with improved navigation and functionality. Enjoy a more intuitive layout that makes submitting online easier than ever!

• Please make sure when providing workman’s compensation or liability insurance the certificate

• If you were affected by the severe storms and flooding that occurred from June 11-14, 2024, you may be eligible for financial assistance from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). • LP / Contractor updates / renewals will no longer be accepted through email or physical mail. Updates must be submitted through LauderBuild using the Contractor Registration Renewal application. You only need to submit updated documents for what is expired. If submitting multiple documents, do not add them all in the same file, please ensure each one is uploaded to the correct Category.


• Approved walk-thru permit types will only be offered through our online permitting process. 


• The Florida Building Commission has mandated the installation of the Eighth Edition (2023 version) of the Florida Building Code (FBC).  All permit applications submitted to the City of Fort Lauderdale after December 31, 2023 will be subject to this new edition of the FBC. 

As of January 1, 2024, the LauderBuild permit selection options have been made even easier for our Neighbors. All you need to do is select the general permit category and leave the rest to us. Still, not sure which type to select? Following are the main categories and associated permit types.

The City of Fort Lauderdale has compiled a list of private provider companies as a convenience. NOTE: This list does not serve as an endorsement or referral of any kind. Selecting a private provider contractor is solely the decision and responsibility of the property owner.

According to Florida Statute 713, Part 1, as it pertains to home construction and remodeling, those who work on your property or provide materials and are not paid-in-full have a right to enforce their claim for payment against your property. This claim is known as a construction lien.

If your contractor fails to pay subcontractors or material suppliers, the people who are owed money may look to your property for payment, even if you have paid your contractor in full. • FEMA Preliminary Flood Insurance Rate Maps have been issued for Broward County, including the City of Fort Lauderdale. Residents and businesses are encouraged to view the Broward County Interactive FEMA Flood Map - Preliminary.

• Requesting exemption from the noise ordinance: In order for a contractor to work outside of normal work hours, the contractor must submit a noise control/management plan. The noise control/management plan must be approved by the Building Official and City Manager before any work outside of the normal hours is commenced. For detailed information on how to request an exemption, please view the Request Exemption from the Noise Ordinance .


• An accessibility inspection will now be conducted as a separate inspection instead of in conjunction with a final inspection. A BADAACCESS inspection must be scheduled and passed prior to Certificate of Occupancy or Certificate of Completion issuance for structures that will be occupied by people.
