Purpose:

All new construction, addition, renovation, or change in use resulting in an increase in water demand and wastewater discharge to the City-maintained water and sewer infrastructure must obtain a Water and Sanitary Sewer Capacity Allocation Letter as part of the plan review process.  This Allocation Letter certifies that sufficient water supply and sewer capacity are available to support the proposed development.

How To Request:

Visit LauderBuild and select New Application, then Permits/Engineering, then Engineering-Service Requests, and then choose Capacity Request.

Minimum Submittal Requirements:

  • All documents must be uploaded in Adobe PDF format.

 Required Uploads:

  • Project Narrative - written overview of the proposed development
  • Development Review Committee (DRC) Case Number
  • Water and Sewer Site Plans showing existing public water and sewer infrastructure; proposed water and sewer point of connection
  • Email plan@fortlauderdale.gov to obtain existing City Utility map.
  • Guide for calculating Equivalent Residential Connection (ERC) - include existing and proposed usage.
  • Fire Flow Demand Requirements - Flow (GPM) and Duration (HR); otherwise, you may specify the following:
    • Building Type - per National Fire Protection Association (NFPA)
    • Total Fire Flow Area – for all stories
    • Fire Suppression System Type

Timing Requirements:

  • The Allocation Letter is valid for 1 year from the date of issuance and remains active thereafter as long as a development is approved and/or building permit is issued.

Fees:

  • An initial flat fee is based on the size of the proposed development. (Go to: Engineering Fee Schedule.pdf)
  • The fee is invoiced to the DRC Case.  If a DRC Case is not available nor applicable, the letter will not be issued until the invoice has been paid.
