The Florida Task Force-2 (FL-TF2) Urban Search and Rescue Team, based in Fort Lauderdale, is available 24/7 for local and national emergencies. As a FEMA Urban Search and Rescue participating agency, Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue responds to both natural and man-made disasters, providing search and rescue, medical support, communications, and damage assessment.
Since 1991, FL-TF2 has served communities across the nation. The team collaborates with FEMA, the State of Florida, and other agencies, mobilizing when disaster response needs exceed local capabilities and official requests for assistance are made.
Fort Lauderdale’s team is equipped to respond to a wide range of emergencies—including earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, dam failures, technological accidents, terrorist incidents, and hazardous materials releases—where victims may be trapped, lost, or injured. The team includes managers, doctors, structural engineers, canine handlers, heavy rescue and logistics specialists, and communications experts. With just 3.5 hours’ notice, this nationally recognized force can deploy highly trained personnel and specialized equipment to any community in need.
The City of Fort Lauderdale is proud to support the Urban Search and Rescue initiative. Each team member plays a vital role, making Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue a leader in global disaster response.
