Breakers Avenue Streetscape Project
Breakers Avenue lies at the center of the North Beach District, located one-block to the west of A1A between Riomar and Vistamar Streets. This street boasts a vibrant mix of small businesses, including boutique hotels, restaurants, cafes, and art galleries.
The Breakers Avenue initiative began in 2019 with the development of the Breakers Avenue Concept Design Summary. This plan, made in collaboration with the North Beach community, emphasizing creating a safer, more walkable corridor by reducing excessive pavement, narrowing intersections, and adding greenery, gathering spaces, and event areas. In 2020, the City Commission approved a design contract with Kimley-Horn and Associates, and, by 2021, ninety percent of the Breakers Avenue Design plans have been completed. The City anticipates the construction phase of the Breakers Avenue Streetscape project to commence in 2026.
