Fairfax Drive & SW 16th Street Sewer Main Repair Project

The City of Fort Lauderdale and Southern Underground Industries are making repairs to the sewer system at the intersection of Fairfax Drive and SW 16th Street in Sunset. This project includes:

• Repairing approximately 20 feet of sewer gravity main
• Restoring impacted asphalt and landscaping

Construction will begin on Monday, July 27, 2026, and is expected to be completed by Friday, August 7, 2026. Work will take place Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. This schedule is subject to change based on inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

What to Expect

• Intermittent noise: Neighbors should expect noise from heavy machinery, equipment and backup safety alarms. 
• Dusty conditions: Digging will be required to expose the sewer main, which may create dust around the work site. 

Traffic, Pedestrian & Parking Impacts

The following impacts will remain in effect 24 hours a day until construction is completed: 

• Fairfax Drive: Open to local traffic only between SW 16th Street and SW 16th Court.
• SW 16th Street: Open to local traffic only between SR 7 / US 441 and SW 35th Avenue.
• Detours: SR 7 / US 441, Riverland Road and SW 35th Avenue.
• Pedestrians: Traffic control personnel will assist pedestrians near the work zone.
• Driveways: Access will be maintained unless active construction is occurring directly opposite a driveway, in which case crews will coordinate locally beforehand. 
• Safety: Please follow posted signs and use caution.
