Behind every emergency response is constant preparation. Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue firefighters, paramedics, lifeguards, emergency managers, inspectors, and support professionals train throughout the year to protect lives, property, and the community. Specialized teams provide advanced capabilities in hazardous materials response, technical rescue, dive rescue, marine rescue, SWAT medical support, and aircraft rescue and firefighting.
That commitment to readiness extends well beyond the emergency scene. FLFR leads the City’s emergency preparedness and disaster response efforts, including emergency management planning, coordination of the Emergency Operations Center, and support for Community Emergency Response Teams. From severe weather to large-scale emergencies, the department helps ensure the community is prepared before an incident occurs and supported when one does.
For more than a century, that mission has continued to evolve with the community it serves. Established in 1912, Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue today provides fire rescue and emergency management services to the City of Fort Lauderdale, the City of Wilton Manors, and the Town of Lazy Lake.
Operating from 12 fire stations, FLFR responds to more than 55,000 calls for service each year and is among the busiest municipal fire rescue departments in Broward County. Through closest unit response, FLFR also works with neighboring agencies to send the nearest appropriate emergency resource when every minute matters.
