As we gather with family, friends and neighbors to celebrate Independence Day, we are reminded that this Fourth of July carries special significance. It marks America’s 250th year of independence. It’s a milestone that invites us to reflect on our nation’s history, honor those who came before us and look ahead to the future we will build together.

For two and a half centuries, the United States has been defined by the enduring ideals of freedom, opportunity and self-government. While our nation has faced challenges along the way, each generation has helped move us forward through service, innovation, resilience and a shared belief in the promise of a brighter tomorrow.

Here in Fort Lauderdale, we see those values every day. They are reflected in the residents who volunteer their time, the first responders who answer the call, the military veterans who have served our country, the businesses that drive our economy and the families who make our city such a vibrant and welcoming community.

On behalf of the City Commission and our entire City team, I wish you a safe, happy and memorable Fourth of July. Happy Independence Day, Fort Lauderdale!

Dean J. Trantalis

Mayor
