Middle River Watershed Stormwater Pipe Cleaning & Inspections

The City of Fort Lauderdale is working with FloTech Environmental and National Water Main Cleaning Company to clean and inspect approximately 30,000 feet of stormwater pipes larger than 30 inches in diameter, along with drainage structures within the Middle River Watershed. The findings from this work will help guide future stormwater system improvement projects.

Locations

The City of Fort Lauderdale is divided into ten watersheds that help contain and discharge stormwater. This project will take place in various neighborhoods that make up the Middle River Watershed.

Rock Island

Schedule

Cleaning and inspections began in March 2026 and are expected to be completed in fall 2026. Work is taking place weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. This schedule is subject to change based on inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

Neighborhood Impacts
  • Crews will access stormwater pipes through manholes to clean them and record videos within the pipes to document their condition.
  • The roadway will not be disturbed and minimal noise is expected.
Traffic Impacts
  • Temporary lane closures are expected along neighborhood streets during work hours.
  • Traffic control personnel will direct traffic as needed.
  • Access to driveways will be maintained.
  • Please follow posted signs and drive with caution.
