Sanitary Sewer Force Main Rehabilitation and Replacement Project

The City of Fort Lauderdale and Lanzo Construction Company are working to upgrade approximately 23,370 feet of large sanitary sewer pipelines from Sunrise Boulevard to the George T. Lohmeyer Wastewater Treatment Plant to enhance the reliability, capacity, and environmental safety of Fort Lauderdale’s wastewater system.

Work is generally taking place Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. The schedules below are subject to change based on inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

Below is information about current work areas. Traffic control personnel are directing traffic as needed. Please follow posted signs and drive with caution.

Construction Update: Friday, August 28, 2026

Downtown Fort Lauderdale

This work was originally scheduled to begin on Monday, August 31, 2026, and has been rescheduled.

Construction will begin on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, and is expected to be completed in October 2026 along:

• SE 3rd Avenue between SE 6th Street and SE 7th Street
• SE 6th Street between SE 3rd Avenue and SE 4th Avenue

This work includes:

• Connecting recently installed sewer pipes.
• Restoring the roadway, sidewalks and landscaping as needed.

The following roads will be closed throughout construction:

• All northbound lanes of SE 3rd Avenue between SE 7th Street and SE 6th Street.
• All eastbound lanes of SE 6th Street between SE 3rd Avenue and SE 4th Avenue.
• Left turns from southbound SE 3rd Avenue to eastbound SE 6th Street will not be permitted.

Detours will be in effect:

• Along SE 7th Street and SE 4th Avenue.

Rio Vista

Construction will begin on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, and is expected to be completed in November 2026 at the intersection of SE 9th Avenue and SE 6th Street.

This work includes:

• Connecting recently installed sewer pipes.
• Restoring the roadway, sidewalks and landscaping as needed.

The following roads will be closed throughout construction:

• The intersection of SE 9th Avenue and SE 6th Street.

The following roads will be open to local traffic only throughout construction:

• SE 9th Avenue between SE 5th Court and SE 6th Street and between SE 6th Street and SE 6th Court.
• SE 6th Street between US 1 / Federal Highway and SE 9th Avenue and between SE 9th Avenue and SE 11th Avenue.

Detours will be in effect:

• Along US 1 / Federal Highway, SE 5th Court, SE 11th Avenue, and SE 6th Court.

Victoria Park

The completion estimate for work in this area has been extended from July to September 2026 due to extended pressure testing of the newly lined pipe. We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding as we complete this important infrastructure improvement.

Through September 2026, cured-in-place pipe lining of approximately 1,500 feet of sewer lines is taking place between E. Sunrise Boulevard and NE 8th Court along:

• NE 16th Avenue
• NE 9th Street
• NE 18th Avenue

Traffic Impacts

The following roads are closed in both directions throughout construction:

• A portion of NE 16th Avenue running north and south through the intersection of NE 9th Street
• NE 9th Street between NE 16th Avenue and NE 16th Terrace
• NE 9th Street between NE 17th Avenue and NE 17th Terrace
• NE 9th Street between North Victoria Park Road and NE 18th Avenue
• A portion of NE 18th Avenue, beginning at the intersection of NE 9th Street and heading north

The following intersections are closed throughout construction:

• NE 9th Street and NE 16th Avenue
• NE 9th Street and North Victoria Park Road
• NE 9th Street and NE 18th Avenue

Construction Update: Monday, July 27, 2026

Victoria Park

Construction will begin on Monday, August 3, 2026, and is expected to be completed by October 2026 along:

• NE 20th Avenue between NE 9th Place and NE 8th Court

This work includes:

• Cured-in-place pipe lining of approximately 350 feet of sewer lines.
• Restoring the roadway, sidewalks and landscaping as needed.

Related traffic impacts:

• The intersection of NE 9th Place and NE 20th Avenue will be closed.
• The westernmost lane of NE 20th Avenue will be closed between NE 9th Place and NE 8th Court. Both lanes of traffic will be shifted to the east side of the road, and on-street parking in the area will be unavailable to accommodate the travel lanes.
• Left turns from eastbound NE 8th Court to northbound NE 20th Avenue will not be permitted.
• Traffic will be detoured to NE 8th Court and NE 19th Avenue.

Through October 2026, construction is taking place along:

• SE 3rd Avenue between SE 11th Court and Davie Boulevard.
• Davie Boulevard between SE 3rd Avenue and SE 4th Avenue.

This work includes:

• Connecting recently installed sewer pipes.
• Restoring the roadway, sidewalks and landscaping as needed.

The following roads will be closed throughout construction:

• One lane in each direction and the middle turn lane of SE 3rd Avenue will be closed between SE 11th Court and Davie Boulevard. Traffic will be shifted to the southbound lanes of the road.
• One lane in each direction and the middle turn lane of Davie Boulevard will be closed between SE 3rd Avenue and SE 4th Avenue. Traffic will be shifted to the eastbound lanes of the road.

Construction Update: Monday, June 8, 2026

Harbordale

Through August 2026, construction is taking place along:

When crews last worked in this area in March and April 2026, they encountered unexpected conditions that made connecting the underground sewer pipes more challenging than anticipated. Remaining work includes pressure testing the new sewer main, installing two air release valves and restoring the roadway, sidewalk and landscaping.

Final site restoration will take place after all construction in the area is complete. Because this work is part of a larger project, restoration may extend beyond August 2026. Please note, the schedule may change due to unforeseen circumstances or inclement weather.

Traffic Impacts

• Miami Road will be closed between SE 14th Court and SE 15th Street.
• One lane in each direction of SE 10th Avenue between SE 17th Street and SE 18th Court will be closed throughout construction.
• SE 10th Avenue will be closed between SE 15th Street and just south of SE 16th Street, including the intersection of SE 10th Avenue and SE 15th Street.
• SE 15th Street will be open to local traffic only between Miami Road and SE 10th Avenue and between SE 10th Avenue and Cordova Road.
• Detours will be in effect along Miami Road, SE 17th Street, and Cordova Road.

Construction Update: Friday, May 29, 2026

Beverly Heights

Crews have restored the work zone and reopened SE 10th Avenue between SE 2nd Street and E. Broward Boulevard in Beverly Heights.

Beginning in April 2026, crews encountered unexpected groundwater conditions that made accessing the underground sewer pipe more challenging than anticipated. Over the past few weeks, the team has gained a clearer understanding of the area’s underground conditions and now expects to perform the work in late summer 2026, using additional equipment to dry the area surrounding the pipe.

Neighbors will be notified once the work is scheduled. Please note that the boundaries of the work area may shift to support the updated construction approach. The revised schedule remains subject to change based on weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

The work planned for this area includes:

• Cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) lining of approximately 450 feet of sewer lines
• Restoring the roadway, sidewalks and landscaping as needed

CIPP lining is a trenchless method to rehabilitate underground sewer lines and extend their longevity while minimizing excavation and disruption.

Original Project Overview: December 2024 

The City of Fort Lauderdale and Lanzo Construction Company are working to upgrade approximately 23,370 feet of large sanitary sewer pipelines from Sunrise Boulevard to the George T. Lohmeyer Wastewater Treatment Plant. The project includes:

• Rehabilitation of over 13,000 feet of existing sewer pipelines
• Installation of over 10,000 feet of new sewer pipelines
• Restoration of existing sewer connections
• Road resurfacing as needed

Traffic Impacts

• Neighbors are asked to refrain from parking within the streets where work is taking place until this project is completed
• Access to driveways will be maintained unless work is taking place in the immediate area across from the driveway. Crews will attempt to coordinate with neighbors prior to the start of asphalt operations
• Updates will be provided on any additional impacts to traffic or parking.
• Please follow posted signs and drive with caution.
