Fort Lauderdale Celebrates Opening of New PDHQ

The City of Fort Lauderdale officially opened its new Police Department Headquarters today, marking the completion of a major investment in the future of public safety and the men and women who serve the community.
City leaders, law enforcement personnel, current and former elected officials, project partners and members of the community gathered for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new headquarters, located at 1300 W. Broward Blvd.
The approximately 191,000-square-foot, three-story facility replaces the Police Department's former headquarters, which was built in 1958. The new headquarters provides modern workspace, enhanced technology and specialized facilities designed to support the more than 700 sworn and professional staff members who serve the Fort Lauderdale community.
"This new headquarters is a commitment to public safety and to the exemplary group of law enforcement professionals who dedicate their lives to protecting our residents, homes and businesses,” said Mayor Dean J. Trantalis. “Our community as a whole and the job of policing in particular evolved greatly during the 70 years that the old facility was operational. Today, we move our Police Department into a building that provides the space, training capacity and resources needed to serve Fort Lauderdale for generations to come.”
The new headquarters was designed to strengthen both police operations and connections with the community. The facility includes training rooms, public meeting areas, community space and modern technology to support the department's work. The additional space also allows functions previously located elsewhere to be consolidated at the headquarters, improving coordination and efficiency.
“This facility represents an investment in the future of public safety, but its true strength will always come from the people who walk through these doors, the officers and professional staff who answer the call, protect others, and serve with courage and compassion,” said Fort Lauderdale Police Chief Bill Schultz.
The headquarters was designed to provide FLPD personnel with a safer, more efficient and more resilient working environment while giving the department room to adapt as technology, policing strategies and the needs of the community continue to evolve.
The project represents years of planning and collaboration involving City staff, current and former City Commissioners and City Managers, law enforcement personnel, residents and the many design, construction and project professionals who helped bring the facility from concept to completion.
With the opening of the new headquarters, the City is continuing its broader commitment to investing in the personnel, facilities, equipment and technology needed to provide high-quality public safety services as Fort Lauderdale continues to grow.
