The City of Fort Lauderdale is launching its new Certificate of Use (CU) Program on October 1, 2026. All new businesses must obtain a CU before applying for a Business Tax Receipt (BTR). Existing businesses must also obtain a CU when changing ownership, relocating, modifying operations or space, or addressing a notice violation.
The program verifies that a business can operate at a specific location and meets City requirements. Business owners can apply online through LauderBuild.
