To strengthen the perception of the quality of public education in the City, the Administration Division of the City Manager’s Office hosts an annual celebration to commemorate all City Teachers of the Year. This event includes a reception scheduled for the first Commission Meeting in February where awards and certificates will be presented. In collaboration with the Strategic Communications Division, promotional photos and commentaries highlighted in the FTL Connect Magazine will be published honoring their contributions to the profession and investment in education within Fort Lauderdale public schools. Educators are nominated and voted on at the school level. The Teacher of the Year selected at each school often completes an extensive application process to be considered for the Broward County Public School’s Teacher of the Year.

Timeline for this initiative

  • September: Announce program to schools
  • December: Schools must submit Teacher of the Year Form by the last day of school before winter break. 
  • February: 
    • Teacher of the Year Reception 5:00 p.m.
    • Commission Meeting Presentation 6:00 p.m.
  • March: “FTL Leaders in Learning” in FTL Connect Magazine
