Junior Lifeguard Program

The Junior Lifeguard Program is a program offered to youth, ages 9 to 17. Since 1985, the goal of the program has been to teach ocean safety skills. Training activities are consistent with ocean lifeguard requirements, including running, swimming, paddle board use, kayak paddling, rescue buoy technique, shallow-water entry, and surf dash approach training. Recreational activities, such as volleyball, kickball, dodge ball, snorkeling, and beach flags, are also a part of the program.

The basic requirements for participation in the FLOR Junior Lifeguard Program are as follows:

  1. Ability to swim 100 yards in under or around two minutes.
  2. Ability to tread water for a minimum of five minutes.
  3. Ability to swim continuously 25 feet under water.

2026 Junior Lifeguard Program Dates

  • D group: June 8th - 12th, 8 am - 10am COMPLETED
    • D group is only for participants 6 to 8 years old
  • Session 1: June 15th - 26th, 8am - 12am: COMPLETED
  • Session 2: July 6th - 17th, 8am - 12am REGISTRATION IS CLOSED
  • Competition practice week: July 27th - 31st, 8 am - 10 am

Registration for Session 2 is closed.

Each participant must have their own registration form, please do not include more than one participant on each form.

To confirm your child's spot in the program they must complete the entry swim test at one of the dates provided below.

Cost of Program

D group: $125

1st Session: $175

2nd Session: $175

Competition Practice week: $125

Early bird discount: Registration before March 28th will receive $25 off session price. 

Registration after June 1st, 2026, will result in an increase of $25.

Payment

Payment is accepted upon completion of the swim test. Payment is by check or money order only, payable to the City of Fort Lauderdale.
