From its source to your tap, the City of Fort Lauderdale provides its neighbors with millions of gallons of potable drinking water every day, delivering clean water to your home or business. This water is essential for cooking, hygiene, cleaning, medical care, manufacturing, energy production, sanitation, and air conditioning systems, among many other uses. But water is a finite resource in South Florida, and Fort Lauderdale is limited in the amount of freshwater it can pump from the aquifer system. This limited resource has been put under increasing pressure by salt-water intrusion, South Florida's population boom, and aging infrastructure. This makes water conservation a priority!
What Can You Do to Help Save Water?
Get a $125 Rebate for Replacing Your Toilet
If you have an older, inefficient toilet (using 1.6 gallons or more per flush), you may be eligible for the rebate when you replace it with a WaterSense® High-Efficiency Toilet. To participate, please complete the following 5 easy steps:
- Check to see if you reside in the City of Fort Lauderdale or another participating Broward County municipality
- Confirm that your current toilet uses 1.6 gallons or more per flush
- Complete the application online or via mail in order to receive approval
- Install your new toilet
- File the documentation and submit for your rebate

Receive a FREE Water-Saving Device
The City of Fort Lauderdale provides free water-efficient showerheads, pre-rinse spray valves, and low flow aerators upon request to residents. Each of these devices reduces water consumption while maintaining water pressure and comfort. If you are looking to save even more money on your bills, this is a great way to do so! Fort Lauderdale residents can request a free water saving device by sending an email to sustainability@fortlauderdale.gov or calling (954) 828-5812.
Check for Leaks
An estimated 10% of homes currently have leaks wasting more than 90 gallons of water a day. One leak can waste over 32,000 gallons of water in a year! Visit the EPA Fix a Leak website to learn how to identifying leaks in various parts of their homes to help you save both water and money.
Reduce Irrigation Water Usage
Broward County's NatureScape program promotes the use of Florida-Friendly landscapes that require less watering, provide habitat for native and migratory wildlife, and minimize the use of common pollutants such as fertilizers and pesticides.
