Public Transportation
There are several options available in Fort Lauderdale aside from private vehicles.
Amtrak
Check out AMTRAK's Fort Lauderdale Station website for tickets, status updates, and schedules online.
Board County Transit (BCT)
BCT can take you practically anywhere you want to go within Broward County: work, schools, shopping, libraries, parks, cultural and civic activities, and other places of interest. BCT's public transportation services cover approximately 410 square miles within Broward County. The fixed route buses travel between Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties every day of the week, including holidays, connecting to Miami-Dade Transit, Palm Tran and Tri-Rail. The entire bus fleet is air-conditioned, wheelchair and scooter accessible, and includes bike racks. With over 4,500 bus stops, you'll probably find yourself near a BCT route almost anywhere you go. Routes and schedules can be found at Broward County Transit website.
Brightline
Brightline is a privately owned and operated express train with stops in downtown West Palm Beach, downtown Fort Lauderdale, and downtown Miami. For more information and ticketing, visit the Brightline website.
Carpool
Whether you're driving to work, a meeting, or even to the beach, carpooling takes one or more cars off the road. In addition, we will have less congestion on our roadways, less vehicles fighting for limited parking, and you can decrease what you're spending on gas. Not sure who you could carpool to work with? South Florida Commuter Services can help. You can find commuters looking for carpool partners that live and work in your area by visiting the South Florida Commuter Services website and requesting a ride match.
LauderGO! Water Trolley
Crossing the New River (for free!) is now easier than ever with the Lauder GO!Water Trolley, in partnership with the City of Fort Lauderdale and Riverwalk Fort Lauderdale. Route and stop locations can be found at the LauderGO! Water Trolley website.
Community Shuttle (LauderGO!)
The LauderGO! Community Shuttle is a free transportation option for City of Fort Lauderdale Residents and visitors. It has five routes that improve mobility and connectivity within the City, covering areas that larger Broward County Transit Buses are unable to serve, linking passengers to destinations across the city and to the larger transportation network. These services are fully funded by Broward County's Penny for Transportation Surtax Program. Routes and schedules can be found on the LauderGO! Community Shuttle webpage.
Tri-Rail
Tri-Rail is a commuter rail line linking Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and West Palm Beach. It is run by the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA). The 70.9-mile-long system has 18 stations along the Southeast Florida coast. The system connects directly to Amtrak at numerous stations, and the Metrorail in Hialeah (Miami) at the Tri-Rail and Metrorail Transfer Station. A second Tri-Rail line, on the Florida East Coast Railway corridor, is currently in planned to extend Tri-Rail service north to Jupiter, Florida, and south through Downtown Fort Lauderdale, terminating at Government Center in Downtown Miami, as well as numerous intermediate cities such as Hollywood and Miami. For more information visit the Tri-Rail website.
