Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue (FLFR) strategically positions its stations throughout the city and surrounding areas to ensure rapid emergency response. With a dedicated force of over 400 sworn personnel, 31 front-line fire trucks, two fire boats, and a specialized heavy rescue squad, FLFR provides round-the-clock protection and comprehensive emergency services to the communities of Fort Lauderdale, Wilton Manors, and Lazy Lake.

When an emergency happens, every second matters. Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue strategically positions firefighters, paramedics, apparatus, and specialized resources throughout the city so help can arrive quickly when our neighbors need it most.
Readiness is built into every part of the fire station. FLFR firefighters work in an environment designed to keep response time, operational information, and emergency readiness constantly visible. Information is reinforced throughout the stations—including real-time counters and displays in apparatus bays—so crews remain aware of the time-critical nature of every response and are prepared to move the moment an alarm is received.
That focus continues from the station to the street. Whether responding to a medical emergency, a house fire, or a major commercial incident, firefighters and paramedics are working against the clock to get the right people, equipment, and capabilities to the scene as quickly as possible.
FLFR’s deployment strategies are guided by nationally recognized NFPA response standards and continually evaluated using response data and operational performance. The result is a system designed around what matters most to the community: rapid help, well-prepared crews, and dependable emergency service when it is needed most.
Emergency Services also supports a wide range of community and business needs in coordination with other Fire Rescue bureaus. These services include testing building life-safety systems, developing pre-incident response plans, supporting disaster preparedness, damage assessment and post-event recovery, participating in homeowner association meetings and community events, assisting with Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training, and providing off-duty detail units for special events and local sporting activities.
Exceptional emergency response begins long before the alarm sounds. Behind every call is continuous training, meticulous apparatus and equipment maintenance, daily cleaning and readiness checks, and hundreds of individual inspections performed each morning to ensure crews, vehicles, tools, and life-safety equipment are prepared for immediate service. FLFR firefighters continually train for the situations they hope never occur, building the skills, judgment, and teamwork required when seconds matter most. Their professionalism, courage, and acts of heroism have earned recognition and awards throughout the department’s history, but the greatest measure of their service is the readiness they bring to the community every day. Emergency response is not simply getting on the truck and answering a call—it is a constant commitment to being prepared before that call ever comes.
