Ocean Rescue Recruitment

Fort Lauderdale Ocean Rescue currently hiring part-time lifeguards. The application is open until August 28th. The tryout will be held at Lifeguard Tower 12(Vistamar St) on September 16th starting at 8AM. Candidates must apply to attend tryout. New Hire Class will start in November.
Required Certification:
- Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider (American Heart Association preferred, American Red Cross is accepted)
If hired, the following training will be provided:
- American Red Cross Emergency Medical Responder (56-hour course)
- Surf Lifesaving (USLA) – 48-hour course

Physical Performance Exam
This test is a highly competitive event in a Pass/Fail format. Candidates will have to pass one section to move on to the next.
- 500-meter open water swim in 10 minutes or less
- Simulated rescue of an unconscious victim 50 yards from shore in under 5 minutes (200-meter run and swim to victim, secure in RFD in 2 minutes or less, bring to shore and prepare for CPR in 3 minutes or less)
- Spinal immobilization in the surf zone
- CPR (Adult, Child & Infant)
Training
Fort Lauderdale Ocean Rescue requires lifeguards to undergo a rigorous annual in-service training curriculum and schedule that meets and/or exceeds the United States Lifesaving Association’s requirement for Agency Certification.
This includes the following requirements:
- All lifeguards to receive at least 40 hours of supervised open-water lifesaving training and preventive lifeguard skills.
- Every six months, skills testing in CPR, and 500-meter swim in under 10 minutes.
- Requiring daily physical training of between 30 to 45 minutes, in the morning, for swimming, running, paddleboard training, weight training, and medical training.
- Minimum credentials as Emergency Medical Responders; most have earned Emergency Medical Technician certification and some have a Paramedic certification.
- Meeting all standards for Emergency Medical Technician for the state of Florida
