Overview
The StartUpFTL Ideation Cohort is a guided 6-week learning experience focused on the foundations of starting a business. Participants receive hands on instruction, practical tools, and personalized support to help move from concept to action.
Throughout the program, participants learn how to:
- Develop a clear business idea
- Understand legal requirements and register a business
- Create a business model and identify revenue streams
- Conduct market research, including how to use local market intelligence tools
- Understand startup costs and basic financial planning
- Build confidence through discussions, peer learning, and pitch preparation
The cohort is designed to help entrepreneurs gain clarity, validate ideas, and move closer to launching in the City of Fort Lauderdale.
This cohort is ideal for:
• Entrepreneurs in the pre‑launch stage
• Residents who want structured guidance to prepare for business startup
• Individuals seeking step‑by‑step support to understand business fundamentals
• Entrepreneurs who may have recently launched but still need foundational skills
No prior business experience is required! You just need a strong idea and the motivation to build it into something real.
Course Timeline
This accelerated course program will run for 6-weeks in a hybrid schedule (in-person and online). Classes will be held on Mondays from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. The program will begin on July 2026.
Completion Requirements
Participants are required to attend and be engaged. Participants must attend 80% (4 of 6) of the classes to successfully obtain a certificate of completion at the end of the course.
Additional Information
This cohort of StartUp FTL is specifically designed for entrepreneurs in the pre-planning phase of launching their business. These are entrepreneurs/business owners that have been working on launching their business idea. Applicants must have a business idea ready to execute and put together during the cohort sessions. An EIN is not required but recommended to complete the application.
Applications from individuals outside of this phase will not be considered.
Applications will be scored based on elaboration of responses and detail.
